I Almost Missed It!

My husband often has difficulty finding things, even though I’ve told him exactly where they are.
‘Where is the milk?’ he asks, while staring into the refrigerator. ‘Second shelf on the right,’ I reply. ‘I don’t see it,’ he complains.
Finally, I walk over and point to where it sits. ‘Oh, I was looking for a cardboard carton,’ he explains. Sometimes a different colour or size of a package causes him not to be able to ‘see’ the object in question.
My husband’s ‘blindness’ reminds me of the story of Naaman. He expected Elisha to cure him in a certain way. When the cure came in a different form, he didn’t recognise it. He almost left without being healed!
Fortunately for Naaman, he had a servant who ‘opened his eyes’ and encouraged him to try this unexpected method—and his healing came.
How often do we miss out on God’s blessings because they don’t come in the form we expect? We can’t imagine ‘that person’ or ‘that experience’ bringing a blessing from him. May we open our minds and hearts to God’s gifts and guidance in whatever ‘package’ they might come.
Prayer: Dear Lord, you have plans for us greater than we can imagine. Help us not to limit you by the smallness of our minds and the rigidity of our expectations. Amen
