Our community had been ravaged by terrible flooding. Many
houses owned by the elderly and lower income families were severely dam- aged. Churches in our community started an ‘adopt a house’ scheme, by which they would cover the expense of all the supplies and labour needed to gut and restore an ‘adopted’ house. I organised this project at our church but I had no idea how it would
turn out.
Members of all ages volunteered their time and money. Many brought friends and neighbours to help. When I went to buy supplies for the project, most builders’ merchants either donated the materi- als or supplied them at cost. Strangers in the community who saw us working often joined in to help. The project became a tremendous suc- cess. Phyllis, the owner of the house I worked on, shed tears of joy.
God will surely give us all opportunities to be Christ’s hands and feet. Sometimes those opportunities may seem daunting. But if we trust God, our light can shine brighter than we could have ever imagined.
Prayer: Dear God, give us the courage to shine our light in this world so that others can see you clearly. Amen
Thought for the day: Where can I shine God’s light for others today?
