The death of my two-year-old granddaughter followed by the death of my only child 23 months later left me in a wilderness of grief that had my soul searching for answers. Why? Why them? Why me? How do I survive this? What do you want from me, God?

I searched for answers to those questions during that painful time in my life. Everything and everyone around me offered only temporary relief from my grief. In my greatest suffering I realised that God was my only true source of comfort. The Holy Spirit comforted me and gave me a peace beyond understanding. This comfort did not take the pain away suddenly or shorten my time of grief. Instead it shifted my focus from the circumstances to the
Saviour, Jesus Christ.

We all experience painful circumstances that cause us to
despair. But God is with us even in the most tragic situations. He comforts us and empowers us to comfort others with the comfort
we have received.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for being with us during our
deepest grief. Help us to trust you through the pain. Amen
