Rainy days give me a slow, sleepy kind of feeling. While I usually enjoy these days, sometimes even when I seem to have no reason to feel sad, I feel dreary. Then the sun peeks out, and suddenly I feel warm and cheerful again. The light from the sun honestly changes my mood. The New Living Translation of the Bible says ‘I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light’ instead of using ‘enlightened’ in the verse from Ephesians above.
When our hearts are flooded with God’s light through scripture, we can feel the warmth and peace he offers. God loves us and cares for us all the days of our lives. Just as the sun’s light changed my mood from dreary to happy, so scripture can change our minds and hearts from being cloudy and uncertain to being confident in God’s presence and peace. No matter what the day may bring, his light brightens our lives.
Prayer: O God, illumine our minds and hearts with your words so that we may gain a better understanding of you and your will for our lives. Amen
