God's Grace is Sufficient
Author: Peter Hyer McNabb (Texas, US)
After a family dinner, I sat at the table with my father-in-law, Darrell, drinking coffee. He rarely talked about his own father; but this afternoon, he told a humorous and touching story about football, a marching band, rain, mud, car heaters and the love of his father. We laughed. I told a similar story about my late father.
The next day, it occurred to me that Darrell has been a father to me for 30 years. When I need help or advice, I turn to him.
Like Jethro, who influenced his son-in-law, Moses, Darrell has influenced me through his caring encouragement and gentle guidance. Darrell is an example of God’s grace in my life, and I am learning that God’s grace is more than sufficient for me.
God sends people into our lives to bless us and to strengthen us. When we listen for his voice speaking through them, we can grow into the children of God we were meant to be.
Prayer: Dear God, speak to us through the people we love, as we pray, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’* Amen
