Green Pastures

South Texas was suffering from drought. For the entire summer, we had received only a few inches of rain. The temperature reached 100 degrees or higher 20 days in a row. Fields were barren. Farmers were forced to sell livestock because they had no grass.

Lack of rainwater is only one kind of drought that may invade our lives. Others can be a divorce, illness or the loss of a loved one, job or home. Our souls may be parched from lack of nourishment. During those times, we can trust that God will send showers of blessing. We Texans have a saying, ‘It always rains at the end of a dry spell!’ We know that a drought, although difficult, is temporary. In the same way, we Christians can know that after a dry spell, we simply have to trust God and be patient and we will see the rain again.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to trust you and wait patiently for your blessings. Amen
