Confidence In God

A few years ago, I volunteered with a disaster-relief organisation.  Even though my background was in social work, part of my job would be to get supplies from local hardware stores for the construction sites.  During orientation I was dropped off at a hardware store with a two-page list of items to find.  I had no clue what some of these items were, so my first response was fear.  I saw three ways to respond. One was to let self-pity and doubt overwhelm me.  I should have never taken this position.  I don’t know what I am doing.  I will look like a fool doing it.

The second response could be in anger: Why is this organisation making me do this?  They should know I don’t know what these items are.  Or third, I could respond with a confident attitude — confidence not in myself but in God.  I had no clue what I was doing but God did.  After all, the Lord said, “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them . . . I will not forsake them.  I knew that God had called me to do this work, so I chose the third response.

Whenever challenges come our way, we can choose to trust God.  On our own we may be lost, but with the Lord we can handle any problem.  God is always faithful.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your wisdom and guidance.  Amen.
