Well Pleased

When I watch my sons perform in a concert or represent their school in playing sport, I’m overcome with emotion. I often get nervous before the event. I get tearful and excited when they perform well and grieve when they fail. If they succeed, I’m flooded with pride afterwards. I’m not used to such strong emotions and the feeling that I have little control over them.

My response to these events makes me wonder whether God feels the same way about us. We are told that we are made in the image of God, and the New Testament tells us that he was ‘well pleased’ with Jesus as a son. It is extraordinary to think that God might look at something I’m doing and have the same strong emotions that I experience as a parent.

Meditating on the image of God being well pleased with Jesus encourages me that, just as my children bring me joy, my ordinary life may bring joy to my heavenly Father.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to find fulfilment in the knowledge that you love us. Amen

I just wanted to congratulate you on this initiative. What an amazing resource for the Deaf community in the UK. Thank God for your obedience in going forward with this. GL
