The Squirrel

Bible Reading: Luke 10:25-37

Where I work at home, I enjoy watching blue jays, wrens, rare red, white and black woodpeckers, chaffinches and other kinds of birds in my front garden. More birds came as I fed them with bird food.

But recently I was annoyed as a squirrel invaded into the area and stole the birds’ food. I started looking for ways to get the squirrels out of the garden.  I tried banging on the window only to get the stares from the squirrel.

Then one day I saw a cat attack the squirrel in my garden. I ran out the door and chased the cat away. The squirrel was laying on its back, panting hard. I felt sorry for it. I didn’t know exactly what to say, but I quickly asked God to help the squirrel.  I asked Him to give the squirrel another chance as it did not deserve to die.

As I opened my eyes, immediately the squirrel, got up and darted away. Since then I have set up separate feeders for birds and squirrels.

This experience made me realise about how we sometimes treat other people unfairly. Our Bible Reading today is about loving people, even if they are different from us. Ask God to help you treat people the way you want to be treated. —RW*

Luke 10:27b “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. Also, ‘Love your neighbour the same as you love yourself.’”

PRAYER: Dear God, help me to show love to the people I meet today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
